san francisco mayor breed. and we are here at a building and a place that has been i would say decades in the making. many of us struggle with the bureaucracy of the city and the frustration around the bureaucracy. i gotta admit a lot to do with the laws created at the board of supervisors including i did not create those complicated laws only lus to get rid of bureaucracy and happy top have supervisor engardio joining us here today because he, too, is someone who care busy making things easier for people to do business with the city and county of san francisco. you know what is frustrating is how hard when you have to do thing in a permit center or apply for things and you go through the process and not only does the city make it too difficult for to you go throughout press they make you pay for it. and part of what i wanted to do with a lot of changes to our structure is to the try to clear out the bureaucracy, make it easy approximate simple. i remember when i was on the board of supervisors and every year w

which is rare in san francisco. and also cal-trans study shows car traffic failed to materialize, which it is important to note considering the debate regarding removing the central freeway no increase car traffic but with both embarcadero and octavia we found car drivers looked to streets and navigate without the freeway. i included this picture it is a picture of the embarcadero before the freeway removal. which is crazy because different i looked into the issue i never knew this beautiful space could be a freeway for cars. so then our recommendations are there is already a clause in the san francisco general plan that urges cal-trans to study the removal of the freeway, we urge the board of supervisors to urge cal-trans to complete the study and secondly, we need funding for the study. so we want the board to look into grants in order first study to be completed. and lastly we want to ensure the voices are centered when we talk about freeway removal. we know is a controversial issue. we want to ensure that the bo

with sand the way that san francisco was and when you look at a map of san francisco have a unique street grid and one of the thing is those streets started off in extremely long piers. but by 1875 they know they needed more so the ferry building was built and it was a long affair and the first cars turned around at the ferry building and picking up people and goods and then last night the street light cars the trams came to that area also. but by the late 1880s we needed something better than the ferry building. a bond issue was passed for $600,000. to build a new ferry building i would say 800 thousand for a studio apartment in san francisco they thought that was a grand ferry building had a competition to hire an architecture and choose a young aspiring architect and in the long paris and san francisco had grand plans for this transit station. so he proposed the beautiful new building i wanted it wider, there is none tonight. than that actually is but the price of concrete quitclaim two how and was not completed and killed. but it opened a greater claim and became fully operational bef
