I would go directly to http://www.copyright.gov/ and perform a search there. Hope this helps.

Hi, I had nearly forgotten about my email, and thanks for replying. I've researched it more since I wrote the question, and found the text files for copyright renewal at PGutenberg, also the database at Stanford University. I've also done searches at the U.S. Copyright Office database but this is limited to 1978 and later.
